The aim of the project “KIGORA”, which stands for “Kigoma College by Radio”, is to improve the standard of living and to reduce poverty in the region of Kigoma (to start with) by strengthening the prevailing culture of peace and tolerance through community participation.

Formal and non-formal education and communication services on one hand and to increase the level of education of adolescents and adults from the age of 14, who, for different reasons, did not get a chance to start or to complete primary education on the other hand.

Although the project emphasizes on education and information, other projects will de developed in the future. The radio will offer room for discussion cross cultural issues such as gender, HIV, street children, participation in development, protection of the environment etc and specialists will be invited to discuss some of these topics.

The beneficiaries of the project are the people of Kigoma (called Baha), who speak Kiha language. With the project, volunteers sponsor the purchase of radios with their application fee. They also contribute to local households who accommodate them.
