If you want to come to New Zealand as an au pair, volunteer, worker, trainee or tourist you will have to apply for a visa to enter the country and be eligible to work or travel around.
Here is some general information about what visas are most common for our programs. More detailed information you will find on the website of Immigration New Zealand. We will provide you with the information that is needed, but you must make sure that you apply for the correct visa and inform yourself about the conditions. Failure to do this is not Linguavision's responsibility.
Working Holiday Makers
There are 29 countries (including the work exchange program for Singapore) that have an agreement with NZ to let young people experience the life and culture of the country for a period up to 12 months. For this, you can apply for a working holiday visa.
These countries are: Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chili, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, The Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand (special conditions apply for the English level), United Kingdom, United States of America and Uruguay.
Requirements for each country (except Singapore) are:
- The applicant is a resident of one of the countries mentioned above and has a passport that will be valid at least 3 months after departure from New Zealand
- The applicant is between 18-30 years old
- The applicant has no children
- The applicant has a return ticket or sufficient funds to prove he or she is able to pay a return flight
- The applicant has at least 4,200 NZ $ available funds to meet the living costs while in NZ The applicant meets the health and character requirements
- The applicant has a valid insurance policy for the period he or she is in NZ
- The applicant has not come to NZ on a Working Holiday Visa before and does not intend to take permanent work
Bear in mind though that not everyone can work for the same employer the whole year. Only applicants from Belgium, Canada, France, Denmark, Ireland, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom and United States of America can do this.
